In Myzeqe, Christmas is a beautiful blend of traditions and beliefs carefully preserved by families. Preparations begin several days in advance, when homes are thoroughly cleaned: windows are washed, rooms are arranged, and the space is decorated with festive lights and a Christmas tree. On Christmas Eve, the family gathers around the fireplace where the fire is lit — a symbol of warmth, love, and peace within the household.
The Christmas dinner features traditional foods such as kulaç (traditional bread), meat pie, petulla (fried dough), and free-range chicken with potatoes. Wine is the usual drink served with the meal. An important tradition is for the whole family to gather at the parents’ home, strengthening family bonds and the sense of togetherness.
